My Lord,
I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of Your Lordship's confidential despatch
of the 2nd of June, on the subject of the currency
and exchange situation in Hong Kong, and to forward herewith twelve copies of the report (and evidence) of the Committee appointed by Mr. Southorn.
2. In view of the general anxiety in regard
to the currency situation and the anticipated delay
in the submission of the final report of the
Committee, I considerit advisable that an interim
report should be issued, and at my request the
Committee submitted such a report.
With the
concurrence of my Executive Council, this was
communicated to the Press, and a copy forwarded to
Your Lordship under cover of my confidential despatch
of the 3rd of July.
